Neurospeculative Afrofeminism

Hyphen-Labs | 2017 | VR Technical Director / Motion Capture

VR AR XR / Motion Capture

Neurospeculative Afrofeminism is a speculative design and VR project by Hyphen-Labs that imagines products, experiences, and protocols centered on the needs of women of color. The work uses virtual reality as a site for radical reimagination of technology, identity, and embodiment.

As VR Technical Director and Motion Capture lead, I built the real-time systems driving the experience and captured the performances that populate its world. The project toured for two years across major festivals and cultural institutions.

Awarded the Tribeca Film Festival Special Jury Prize. Shown at Sundance New Frontier, SXSW, Gray Area Art & Technology Festival, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Stony Island Arts Bank, New Inc: Versions Festival, and Refinery29’s 29 Rooms.
